Kids in Technology Class

Why STEAM?

You may be familiar with STEM education standing for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. In STEAM the A is an additional focus on Art. The STEAM education model integrates the 5 core components into regular academic standards emphasizing hands-on learning and building connections with real-world skills.

Our Academics

Our philosophy is based on kids taking responsibility for their learning. We believe in a student-centered approach where students are involved in the process. This happens with Project-Based Learning (PBL) and Inquiry Based Learning, where students are encouraged to ask questions, formalize opinions, and develop solutions. Through interdisciplinary learning and integrated content, students build connections and are able apply their knowledge in meaningful ways.

Student-Centered

There is not a one size fits all curriculum that meets the needs of all students. A student-centered approach gives students a voice in their learning, and strives to meet each individual need, rather than a box curriculum that is focused on whole group. This also gives opportunity for a variety of teaching strategies to be used to engage students and meet their needs. Being a facilitator instead of dictator allows students to deepen their understanding of the world around them and apply what they are learning. Individualized small group lessons will be created based on the need in a specific subject area and used to ensure educational growth in all students.

lessons will follow and cover required state standards, while also integrating ELAR skills into interdisciplinary projects. Science of Reading methods will be used to guide reading instruction, and will be the curriculum approach to phonics.

Mathematics

Math should be hands-on; students will develop concrete math skills through the use of manipulatives and real-world applications.

Faith-Based

While we will not be diving into the theological principals of Christianity, we do believe that Christ's life is model of how we should live out our daily lives. We believe in the powerful grace that God extended through His Son, and that belief is woven into everything we do. An emphasis will be placed on the example of Christ's life, the main themes of His teachings, and the fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control.

Science

Science standards will drive project-based learning units. Students will cultivate real-world skills such as inquiry, collaboration, and problem-solving.

Social Studies

Social Studies is a great opportunity for students to connect with community and to learn from experts in their fields. We want students to make connections and build relationships with the world around them.

Science Courses

The STEAM education model integrates the 5 core components into regular academic standards emphasizing hands-on learning and building connections with real-world skills. Project-Based Learning is a core element in STEAM that is a student-centered approach and allows students to question, solve problems, and apply all academic disciplines in a meaningful way.
